We Just Play All Day

I’ve discovered an amazing website that I want to share with you!

The National Institute for Play (NIT) has resources that help you understand the importance of play in children’s brain development, mental health, and learning.ย There’s also plenty in there about how YOUR play in everyday life supports your mental health.

I hope you’ll check it out. You’ll find book lists, videos, and a library of research about the benefits of play. Here’s a little peek…

  • Play is done for its own sake โ€” for internal reward (not external reward).
  • In play, attention is focused on the activity more than the outcome, and players do not necessarily look for the easiest routes to achieving an outcome.
  • Children’s play often has goals, but the pleasure and engaging quality of the activity are more important than the outcome.
  • Children who freely choose their play become capable, accomplished adults.

That’s our goal, right? Supporting, teaching, and loving children in a way that enables them to go into the world and make a difference. ๐Ÿงก
