Keepin’ it Clean
Yucky!
Childcare centers are notorious for getting people sick! As much as we try to prevent it, bugs and viruses can settle in and wreak havoc before we realize what’s going on. You can stay on the defense with two simple habits:
1. Wash your hands!
Everyone, including each child, should wash their hands when they arrive in the morning. Then each time you toilet, eat, play outdoors or handle germy situations, wash those hands! Teach children to sing a song while they suds up, and when the song is done they can rinse. Always use paper towels for drying, not a towel shared by everyone.
2. Sanitize surfaces and toys daily!
Texas Minimum Standards for Child Care Centers recommends a solution of 1-tablespoon household bleach to 1 gallon of water for toys and eating utensils. For bathrooms, diaper changing stations and cribs, a solution of ¼ cup bleach to 1 gallon of water is recommended. This solution has to be made fresh each day. This low-cost solution will keep the creepy crawly bacteria away and keep both you and your children healthy!
Doing all we can to keep them healthy, this is one way we can be kind to children.
