Preschoolers Want to Learn!
It’s back to school time and if you are working with preschoolers you know how excited they are about learning! Did you know that you can use your student’s names as a fun way to introduce reading and writing?
Here are some fun facts about preschool literacy learning!
What’s the first word that children want to read and begin to write in preschool? Their name!
What letters do children learn first? The letters in their name!
What letters do children learn after their own name? The letters in their friend’s names!
What’s the best way to help children recognize their own name and their friend’s names? By always attaching a photo along with the name on labels all around the classroom – cubbies, journals, letter wall words, sign-in sheets, job chart, attendance, writing center… in other words – everywhere!
One of the first things to do at the beginning of the year is make name cards with pictures for each child. They will need at least 5 name cards – so having a system in place for making (and replacing worn out cards) them will save you time. Click the button below for easy instructions!
